Fighters take off from Italy's Aviano airbase

<< Many fighter jets took off from the NATO airbase at Aviano in northeastern Italy on Wednesday as warning sirens were heard in the Kosovo capital of Pristina, Italian teletext and news agencies reported.

Italian agency ANSA quoted an Aviano spokesman as saying the planes had taken off. It said F-16, F-18 and EA-6B aircraft were believed to be involved. There was no immediate confirmation of whether they were destined for bombing raids against Serbia but the spokesman was quoted as saying they were ''carrying weapons.'' Jets were also reported to have taken off from the Istrana airbase. >>

That is the judgment of senior police officers across Europe. An investigation by The Times has established that police forces in three Western European countries, together with Europol, the European police authority, are separately investigating growing evidence that drug money is funding the KLA's leap from obscurity to power. -- cont'd -- >>
