Couldn't a good war put Russia's military back in the drivers seat? Wouldn't this be a perfect opportunity for the old guard to seize the moment, thus returning their party to power

Pat-I agree.Very, very serious. Yes, Russia weakened, either financially and military, but unforeseeable. Nothing is more dangerous than a wounded bear.

patrick, in response to your reply#52 and this one:

just because theyre constantly coming over here to beg us for money so that they can pay back loans that they got from our banks, i dont think russia will put up with us sending troops and tanks into their back yard.

i agree that what is going on in kosovo is terrible. its murder. it has to be stopped. but we should not be so arrogant or self-righteous as to go around thinking we're the only ones who know how to stop it or the only ones who can.

tensions between n.korea and s.korea and japan are getting higher. russians are pissed at us and nato. wheres china in all this.

this could easily escalate into something totally unforeseeable.

i hope that several weeks/months from now we arent all going to be asking ourselves "my god, what have we started?"

maybe we should give the russians money to invade serbia and be the policeman for the region (they obviously dont want nato or us to be it). russians get their money. we get our peace. kill two birds with one stone.
