Quonnie. I cannot advise you on what to do with your money. I do not advocate you buy or sell any stock.

All I can do is tell you what I am doing. I trade MSFT every day. However, I also have a fairly large position I am holding for the split play.

In view of the split play - it is my belief (this is just my opinion), that MSFT will be higher from today's level (171 1/4) on Friday.

I also speculate that it will be higher next week, until the middle of next week (approx April 1).

Thereafter, I believe (again this is just my opinion) it will decline somewhat. I will therefore sell my split-play block, and continue trading MSFT actively.

Longer term, it will be under pressure from the DOJ resuming the case, but until July, I think it will be somewhat choppy, and then it will decline (in my opinion) rather sharply in the summer and into the fall - more to do with the general market than with MSFT.

The long-long term, (in my opinion) you stand a good chance of making money in MSFT (I believe Windows 2000 will be huge, they will come out with Win 98 Final Edition, there is just a ton of great opportunities for MSFT to grow for at least 2-3 more years to outperform the market).

However, do your own DD. I'm a trader mostly, so my time horizon is rather short. Yet, I also have a longer-term portfolio I don't trade - in it I have a big position in MSFT (in addition to PFE, BMY, AOL and a few others). I feel my money is safe in MSFT.

Good luck in all your investments

Morgan

in your opinion is this the correct time to buy into MSFT or wait till the dust settles

If you're buying for the long term why not decide the dollar amount of MSFT you want to buy then buy half now and half in a week, up or down? That way at least you get half of it cheap, either the half you buy now or the half you buy in a week.

I don't usually do this myself. I tend to be a binary investor, completely in or out of a stock. Until recently the dollar amount I had in any individual stock wasn't very large but that's starting to change.
