Perhaps some of this gain was prompted by Gates' admission that MSFT has been having talks with some of the PC manufacturers about restructuring their OEM licensing procedures and allowing PC makers to muck with the splash screens. Hey, if it moves towards a settlement, it couldn't hurt. Better than a ruling against them.

Most of us should not get caught up in all this trial stuff:

biz.yahoo.com

This media game will continue for several weeks as MSFT tries to show Mr. Jackson its being a good boy, and the State ADs try to make a name for themselves (and drive down MSFT stock in some lame attempt to screw with Bill G.). I really do not expect a settlement to be reached, and if anything, anticipate a negative verdict as a once a year gift to buy more shares.
