MINNEAPOLIS (CBS.MW) -- Television-based retailer ValueVision International reported better-than-expected fourth-quarter results Wednesday on improved performance at its core TV shopping division and its catalog operations.

Excluding items, ValueVision posted a profit from operations of $1.6 million, or 6 cents a share, compared to a loss of $528,000, or 2 cents, in the year-earlier period. Analysts polled by First Call were looking for a breakeven per-share figure.
