The reality is that the timing of an announcement has more to do with settling the terms of the deal than with living up to the rumors propagated on Internet message boards. The people negotiating the deal, if there is one, care more about favorable terms for both companies and will lose absolutely no sleep over speculators and shorts who get screwed because of timing. Their fiduciary duty is to the longs, not the gamblers.

Beach,
It took 6 days of heavy trading with Xylan prior to the actual deal going down. If I remember correctly, the day before it was actually down a slight bit.

The volume during the last 4 trading sessions is so far out of the norm for FORE that something is going on behind the scenes. If you feel that it's not going to happen then sell at the open and Good Luck, but don't come complaining back here if it happens at 30%-60% than the current price.

If the company is bought for $3B then we're looking at a price of 27. The MMs manipulated the heck out of this stock this morning. Someone wasn't satisfied with the results of the stop gaps that were cleared out at 17 so they did it again to 16.5. Don't you think that if the company wasn't going to be bought we never would have recovered to 18+ today.

I doubled my position on the 2nd bounce this morning at 17. I think Tim & I will be very pleased with buyout over 25. Where can you make 50% on your money in just a few days. All the signs seem to be there and if they're not, well I let you be the first to make fun of me when were back at 13. <<<but it ain't gonna happen>>>

Re:The companies would have announced by now.

Beach, you may be right and I certainly have no knowledge either way but consider how long the rumor of Lucent buying Ascend was floating around. I could look it up, but from memory, at least 4 to 6 months prior to the final announcement, even Maria B. announced it on CNBC some months prior. I know because I sold, thinking it was just a rumor to push the price up. Same with Xylan, months of whispers and rumors.
Fortunately, I held that one.

Have enjoyed your posts and would hate to see you sell early.I believe these things take time, after all we are talking about a 2 billion dollar company. It takes some people months to close on a modest house.<g>

Good luck whatever your decision.

Ray

Impatience is not a virtue of a saavy investor.

FORE will go, no doubt, maybe not tomorrow or next month but they will go.
