Gerald, It is called building brand loyalty at a very early age. Once these kids grow up, they will remember that subliminal message that Microsoft is fun!!!!!
Seriously, the promotion that MSFT gets can only help not hurt.

Why? What's so hot about a toy that can only be played with during a particular half hour a day? 23-1/2 hours a day the toy is a simple $10 stuffed doll. What happens when "Teletubbies" goes the way of He-Man? Toss the toy? I wouldn't buy one."

Actually, the Teletubbies are the third product in the Actimates line. Actimates Barney has been out for a little over a year, and has been a BIG success. Actimates Arthur and D.W. have been out since just before last Xmas.

All Actimates have three modes of operation:

1) Stand-alone. They have the ability to react to external stimuli (squeeze a hand/foot, cover the eyes so they can't see, etc.). They will sing various kids songs and "chat" with the child.

2) With a computer. Using wireless technology they will interact with educational programs on your PC (carrying on conversations with on-screen characters, congratulating a child for getting the right answer to a math problem, etc.).

3) With a tv. They can interact with live broadcasts (like Barney/Teletubbies on PBS) or with videotapes. As with the computer, they will interact with the tv show.
