HAHA -- you are like me,

I always jump in things without doing DD.

However, I don't hold things that could gap up/down overnight.

Anyhow, don't sell at the market open, the first 15 mins always too high( or too low).

Set a stop loss order and go do something else, when you come back, the worst thing could happen is your stop order was triggered :)

L.

city: Good job asking around... Lucky is right, if BEAM is strong in the morning, most likely there will be some selling after the initial gap open. It's difficult sometimes, but don't panic cover at the market open. We've all been there and most likely you'll get a chance to cover below the opening price, (if covering is your goal). If the stock is strong and the market is good, don't count on a big pullback, you might just end up waiting too long and having it take off again.

Maybe someone with level 2 can help you in the a.m.

PS If it's really strong and the market is good, you might want to consider covering and going long simultaneously.

I'm not trying to tell you WHAT to do, how could I? You're doing a good thing by considering and planning your options... for whatever happens. There is quite a large float, so that's in your favor.

PSS, I'm gonna try to 'reserve' some shares pre open. If my broker has any, I'll place a limit order at 15, so they can be used later if need be.

Ain't it fun!

BEAM take out a one time litigation settlement of 34.4 million and a 2 million sale of an asset and this company has less than a million in income in 98. I can't decide to go long because of the hype or short because of the facts.

Income from continuing operations before the cumulative effect of accounting change in 1998 was $36.7 million, or $1.17 per share, which includes a litigation settlement of $34.4 million, net of related expenses and the $2.0 million gain on the sale of assets. Income from continuing operations for 1997 was $0.8 million, or $0.03 per share. Net income in 1998 was $27.6 million or $0.88 per share compared to $21.4 million or $0.68 per share in 1997. Net income in 1997 includes a favorable impact of $20.6 million related to discontinued operations

City wrangler, Islander

Islander, I got it. Thanks. I bookmarked it to read in the wee hours. It wouldn't go the first few times I tried it.

For all, there are bugs in IE5 I have noticed.

City Wrangler, my gut feeling tells me that it won't see negative territory tomorrow, because this run was partially based on earnings. And the volume was pretty intense. It turned on quick. But on the bright side, my gut feelings are pretty much worthless. Next time, I would treat it like a trade, rather than a position, until you have done the DD. Without DD, you are just preying on momentum, and if it goes the wrong way, you should be prepared to take the loss quickly and without regret. You don't have to have your money in something all the time. Especially a large portion of it. But 1/2 a point is all I would have suffered on this. So when the ask hit 9, it should have been over for you. That's just an opinion though, and I don't claim to be one of the experts you are looking for. I don't think anyone can give you the answer you are looking for, unless they are the Axe..

I lost 1/2 point getting in, while I did some real quick comparisons to VISX and looked over the earnings the best I could. My browsing was terribly slow. Hope this doesn't keep you up all night but I wouldn't be surprised if it went up 4-5 more points and stayed there with ease. I think you may have shorted it below a new support level.
Good luck to you.
