The canon has now changed to one in which the technocracy must predict great gloom and doom
You are quite right when you say that many miss the time when the purpose of this thread was the intelligent discussion of @home and its long term chances of success.
But as to the other-- have you ever considered that the reason some are predicting "gloom and doom" (actually only ahhaha is doing that) is because they actually *believe* it? At the least people do it because they want to prepare themselves (and others) for the possibility so they dont freak when it happens.
ATHM has always had a pattern of scaring its investors. Every time it hits a new high on great optimism it suddenly plunges deep and hard. I remember the week ATHM dropped from 45 to 30 and the day it dropped from 70 to 58. Buying everything I could afford @58 that day was the single best investment decision I have ever made but I was terrified doing it. ATHM *might* have a new mood now being so widely recognized, but I'm sure not counting on it.
None of that is an excuse to be rude though, which too many have been.
Eric
