Michael, who designated you the keeper of my voice, how rude and presumptuous of you. I didn't respond to your post because I never saw it. I am now not responding to your question because I only look at quarterly numbers in the context of overall long-term performance, mainly because I usually invest rather than trade (though I do take the occasional flyer and am usually sorry). I'm not a market timer and I don't know anyone who is very successful being one, perhaps you are the exception, I don't know. My investment philosophy is hardly what I would call a philosophy. I was steered into investing not too many years back by some very wise folks who convinced me that the nineties and beyond belonged to technology. Basically I seek out companies with strong management skills, a long term vision for the future with which I agree and a proven ability to focus on that vision and execute. Sometimes I win sometimes I lose, so far my winners (thank goodness) are well ahead of my losers. I'm not a sophisticated analyst of companies, don't aspire to be and I'm comfortable with that. If I feel that Dell's management has lost the ability to focus and execute I will sell, and that kind of judgment is not IMO done on a quarter to quarter basis. I find that this style allows me to sleep at night. Believe it or not, as you like. I would indeed be interested in your philosophy, since it seems to be important enough to you to cause you to be rude. You can also find more of my musing on this at the following post.
