I think CSCO bought Stratacom because AT&T could not install them fast enough at the time. Who wouldn't want the political clout of saying "We power the AT&T frame network!"
I had a broker calling me every day, for information on Stratacom, and I watched the value of the stock soar 70% over the next 2 weeks.

Actually, there were a lot of reasons CSCO got Stratacom, and I think we are all touching on a few.

CSCO was very proud of Stratacom, right up until the whole AT&T network crashed.... and everyone has to admit just what went wrong...

Jorj, I agree with your point. In hindsight this has worked out to be the case. At the time of the acquisition, CSCO was touting the ATM/FR technology, ATT switch-a-day pace and emerging backbone business as the reason for spending what at the time was a significant amount of $. If what they have today in the multiservice space is a direct result of that acquisition (or a large component of it), then it should be considered a successful acquisition. I do not know as much about stratacom's non-atm/fr switch products.

regards,

Brian
