Dave and all,

Dave. Thanks for the link.

OK. Let us debate what is important here. Trade or politics? I told you guys so. The Chinese is going to take every advantage of it to get its WTO status. Not only IS-95 technology but also CDMA 2000 technology. Otherwise, the Chinese will still go for GSM and WCDMA. Dilemma here?

What do you guys think?

A Chinese telecoms official cautioned, however, that the announcement could be withheld if Mr Zhu encountered hostility in Washington.

"It depends somewhat on America's attitude. It would be very difficult to grant a concession while they are restricting technology exports to China and accusing us of spying," said the official. European mobile equipment manufacturers, such as Ericsson, Nokia, and Siemens, which produce the GSM standard that currently dominates China's mobile market, stand to lose if permission for CDMA is granted.

Best,

Brian H.

*Brer Rabbit in the Briar Patch* "Don't throw me in the briar patch he screamed" Of course he was thrown in and subsequently made good his escape because the briar patch is exactly where he wanted to be. Same for China! I'm glad to see you noticed that China was doing a Huckleberry Finn on USA = "No way are we going to let you paint this fence. Only highly skilled people can paint this fence. But if you pay us some money we will let you paint the fence."

Life's a giggle!

As you say, they are doing some good negotiation if anyone took their protestation that they would stay GSM seriously. Poor Ericy obviously did! They will buy the best and cheapest which is cdmaOne. They will not continue to drain money into GSM other than a bit to tweak the systems up until cdmaOne and WWeb arrives.
