Invesco's May: Normal Seasonality Driving Market Down

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Trent May of Invesco Growth Fund brushed aside the market's recent erratic behavior as being seasonal, a period of hiatus for good news and a time when many companies put out profit warnings.

In an interview with CNBC, May in part attributed the Dow's slump Tuesday to this "normal seasonality," which, he said, also seems to have dampened the technology sector, particularly the personal computer industry, for the short term.

"The PC sector is still on track for mid-, double-digit growth, 15% unit growth for this year," said May "They've seen some earnings worries but we think it's normal seasonality."

He expects the semiconductor companies to do particularly well. "The semiconductor industry is undergoing a multi-year recovery," he said.

Among the semiconductor companies, his picks include Altera Corp. (ALTR), for which he set a price target at $80, Maxim Integrated Products (MXIM) and Lam Research Corp. (LRCX).

May also likes pharmaceuticals, saying that, "(As a group) they've been a choppy performer, but their outlook remains very bright over the next year."
