So, let me see if I can summarize the dilemma in my somewhat overly simplistic manner

1. ATHM's perceived worth is directly related to the exclusivity agreements with the cable companies, the massive public demand for high speed internet access, and the assumption that few of the cable companies knew enough about the internet business to go it alone.
2. The exclusivity agreements are now at risk if Mondays announcements start a round of cable company consolidations
3. The assumption that the cable companies needed the technical know-how of a ISV such as ATHM is no longer the case (they learn, or they partner with a ROBC or a ISV on there terms).
4. The demand is so high, the money lost is trying to go it alone will be small compared to future gains.
5. ATHM does not own the last mile, so without the cable companies, what are they worth?

OK, I guess it's my turn. Ahhaha, tell me how far off I am.

Ted

You wrote < ... They would have to sell their 15M ? shares ...>

I read somewhere that if they, Comcast, wanted to sell their stake in ATHM (conditions and other terms unknown), then they had to sell the shares back to ATHM for something like 86 cents. I don't expect Comcast to sell for 86 cents, so, they will have an investment in both RR and ATHM. I suspect they will use both ATHM and RR until they find a reason to select one of them.

You are the only pundit I have read who has said anything negative about the deal with respect to ATHM.
