Ish,

You have a good point. It was very foolish
of Bubba to just ignore the Russians over
Kosovo. These two nations were long time
allies. During WWII it was the Serbs who
fought the NAZI armies to a stand-still in
the Balkans. Interesting how people seem
to be twisting history these days to suit
their taste for vengence on the Serbs. The
government of Croatia modeled itself after
the "Ustaza Republika", which was a NAZI
puppet during the big one. Yet somehow, Bill
Clinton has found a friend in Franjo Tudjman,
the President of Croatia (and also an indicted
war criminal). Strange bed partners, these
politicians.

Russia can't dictate our policy, but you are right that there were better ways to deal with their sensitivities here... This whole mess is a result of Clinton's incompetence in foreign policy, and his tendency to be reactive.
