Hi Brian,

Yes, ASND made a competitive bid at that time. Based Dick Moley (CEO
of STRM), STRM had been going around pitching for end to end solution
to COMS, CSCO, and BAY at that time since that was customers have been
told them. Only CSCO responded to that request by proposing to merger
with STRM. It was eventually accepted by STRM.

ASND bid was too late and too little and was lost in the noise. But
I give a credit to ASND CEO for recognizing the market opportunities
at that early stage. Then, there was big networks fall in 1997. CSCO
was the only one whether out of that slump.
