(NYSE:MWD - news) said on Thursday its online brokerage unit, Discover Brokerage Direct, was exploring offering after-hours trading as an increasing number of trades cross the Internet. Discover Brokerage Direct, which is not a large part of Morgan Stanley's overall business, also said it had another quarter of record trading volume in the first quarter ended February 28 and it has expanded its Internet alliances to include Quicken and Excite. The announcment accompanied Morgan Stanley's first quarter earnings report, in which operating earnings rose 50 percent to a record $1.037 billion.
