NEW PALM UNITS ADD TO GROWING FLOCK
M2 Communications - MAR 25, 1999

Palm Computing Inc, a 3Com company, has added two new products,
the Palm V and the Palm IIIx organisers, to its family of handheld
computing devices. The Palm V provides 2Mb of memory while the
Palm IIIx offers 4Mb and has an internal expansion slot for the
addition of peripherals. Both organisers run on the Palm OS v3.1
software and feature new liquid crystal display screens, broad e-mail
compatibility and enhanced network connectivity. The Palm V and
Palm IIIx organisers are available immediately for GBP349.99 and
GBP279.99 respectively. Versions supporting French, German, Spanish
and International English are also available. Palm Computing has also
launched accessories for the Palm V device, including a snap-on
33.6Kb/s modem and a travel kit that includes a HotSync Cable and an
AC/DC converter/charger with adapters. These products cost GBP129.99
and GBP34.99 respectively.

Managment, USR stuffed the channels, put all of their inventory
on the shelves, 3Com has made some tough choices to prevent a
modem fire sale, such as slowing down production, until the inventory was sold down to acceptable levels.
The real villain in the merger was USR.>>

Agreed - COMS has two potential jewels with Palm and the Total Control Carrier business (the latter if VOIP takes off). The analog modem business needs to turned in to high growth cable and dsl modem businesses.
