DMA,

The Serbs still call their nation "Yugoslavia".
I often read in newspapers the term "rump"
Yugoslavia...it makes me laugh because I think
it is a propaganda move to associate the Serbs
with an "ass" or something. The nation of Yugo-
slavia was created by Tito (a Croat) who lead
the war against the NAZIs with major help from
the Russian Army and the Serb rebel army. It
was made of 6 Republics which all had a certain
amount of autonomy...Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia,
Macedonia, Montenegro, and Slovania. The civil
wars that occured after the breakup of the East
block were probably inevitable. But now it is
about to turn into Viet Nam for NATO. Its going
to get ugly soon...

Yugoslavia was one of the relatively prosperous Eastern bloc countries, having broken with the U.S.S.R. in the '60s, and allowed a limited degree of marketization of the economy. Plus, the West has given it various trade benefits since the '60s in an attempt to woo it further from the Communist camp. I don't know about the economic situation in Kosovo specifically...
