there's still multiple standards proposed. ERICY has set themselves up to move on all three potential fronts, TD-CDMA, CDMA2000 (now CDMA 3G), and WCDMA. Still Doubtful that WCDMA and CDMA 3G will combine at this point.

it's doubtful that Japan and the rest of Europe will want to kiss QCOM's XXX. Japan because they've got DDI to contend with, Europe because Nokia helps runs the ball game.
