The resulting contraction would suggest that the FED would have lost control of the very item it was created to control to begin with. At that point, they will be powerless to expand credit because it will already be overextended. The attempt to print money will cause inflationary tends and an exodus from the dollar. It would seem that their reluctance to control the reserves is causing the exact problem they are trying to avoid. (boom / bust)
