Bodie,

I have been running version 1.6 of ATHM's S/W for some time, and as far as I can see, it has nothing to do with anyone's PC being able to connect to a USB based cable modem (it's just marketing hype).

The cable company still need to pull a cable to your PC, the PC motherboard needs to support USB, you have to have the extra IOQ available, and you have to be running Win 95/98 (I think the current MAC's already support USB ports).

However, the availability of USB modems can reduce the installation time and increase the number of installs per day by the cable companies. Also, new homes, condos, and apartment buildings may already be wired with cable to where the customer needs it, so self-installation may be possible (if you can by them on the open market)

Cable modems with USB ports is good news for the industry, even if someone at ATHM's public relations' dept wants to take credit for it.
