Older, experienced guys who remember bad times and prudent fiscal policy tend to depart. Young blood comes in who have known nothing but good times, overstretch themselves and flop.

Sort of like the people trading internet stocks and believing it is their skill that makes them money. Once the tide stops rising and starts receding they don't know which way to turn.

Someone once said about learning to fly: "The experience comes first, then (if you survive the experience) comes the lesson." This seems to apply to business too.

Sad, very sad. Stupid of me not to have sold as soon as the long slide began.
