I think it is one of the few real bargaining chips that China has. Qualcomm has been pushing for this for quite a while.

Similar to what MSFT is encountering in its "Vulcan" efforts, getting China to adopt CDMA is just the beginning of the battle for Qualcomm. The Military in China is going to have a lot to say about how the wireless market plays out over the long term.

Like most things in China, it is always much more complicated than it initially seems.

I do get the feeling that we are going to be getting some MAJOR news on the wireless front here in the US. Just not sure whether it will be the RBOCs, AT&T, one of the MSOs, or a major Satellite company.
