COMPAQ's further skewed by DEC/Tandem factors.

The PC sector lost steam Thursday. SmartMoney
pick Apple Computer rose after CEO Steve Jobs
said at the company's annual shareholder meeting
Wednesday that the company would focus more on
selling PCs to the small-business market.
Apple also said it does not plan to announce
a stock-buyback program or make acquisitions
right now.

Separately, IBM said Thursday that it signed an
agreement with Spanish telecommunications company
Telefonica (TEF) to jointly market their
information technology in Spain and Latin America.
Wednesday, IBM revealed that its PC business lost
$1 billion, before taxes, last year. Steven
Milunovich at Merrill Lynch, who reiterated
his Buy rating Wednesday, said the company should
exit the PC business to focus on its more
profitable software and services businesses. MR
