While Cymers past installs are impressive, my point is that in the future Cymer will have to compete with Lambda and others, whereas in the past they had a monopoly.

Maybe LP will have a competitive machine.

Maybe the K7 will displace Intel chips.

Maybe Linux will replace Windows.

Maybe optical will replace magnetic drives.

Maybe network computing will obsolete the PC.

Maybe Pepsi will win over Coke.

I wouldn't count on any of the above, IMO.

>>in the future Cymer will have to compete<< They've already been competing in the past - and doing a great job of it - based upon customer acceptance rates, market penetration and technical superiority. I wouldn't bet that will change. CYMI's got the critical mass, they've got personnel, they've got the best technology with a five year lead, they own the market and have solidified their competitive advantage.

To say - hey - CYMI will have to compete in the future - is to not only state the obvious - but, also it understates and ignores the huge advantages CYMI has as well as insurmountable obstacles faced by Johnny-come-lately me-too wannabe competition. I think it is a little disingenuous to simply complain about one of the company's strengths without providing any basis for the assertion. Perhaps you can back it up?

Good Luck To Each And All
