How's this for a story of persecution. For several years I have been getting offers of credit cards sent to me with huge credit limits and 5.9% or so for 4 or 5 months. Naturally, I always take them up (use the credit to speculate) and transfer my balances going up to 45% or whereever they go when the cheap time is up to the new cards. This works pretty well, until my wife finally got an offer of $100,000 credit line and 0.0% interest for six months. They have no intention of giving her this deal, because our last el cheapo credit card applications came back with the opinion from the bank that we already had enough credit. Pretty rotten, huh?

Steve,

<< Do you have any idea how many agents would have to work for how many hours to read everybody's mail? And how little they would learn of any significance? Hardly cost-effective.>>

It's all read by computer scanning for catch words or phrases. Say someone says in e-mail. "My party bombed". The word "bombed" red flags that e-mail and it's spit out for review by an agent. This is already being dome with satellite technology with millions of phone conversations. Words and phrases are searched for and when they are heard the conversation is taped and referred to an agent for review. Privacy is disappearing.

<<Why do you think this information would be used specifically against Christians? Christians of the David Koresh variety might have something to worry about, but your average church-going conservative wouldn't.>>

Do you think the gov carried out their mission above reproach at Waco? I don't. I think over 80 innocent people were murdered by federal agents who had too much power and were out of control. And then not one illegal weapon was found, metal doesn't burn. The warrant was for a weapons search. Then ugly rumors were fed to the press afterwards by the feds to try to disparage the dead and make an excuse for themselves.

The Executive Branch, Justice Dept. and the FBI have been battling for years to have the right to hold all the encryption keys on the internet. So they can read everyone's mail and messages.

The price of freedom is eternal vigilance! It's easier to be vigilant while we are still free! BTW, the ACLU has been the front runner in fighting the gov in many of these privacy issues.
