Gateway To Launch Authorized Service-Provider Program
(03/25/99, 4:51 p.m. ET)
By Joseph F. Kovar, Computer Reseller News
DANA POINT, Calif. -- The Gateway Business Division of Gateway, in North Sioux City, S.D., will introduce an authorized service-provider program for its resellers on April 1, said company executives.

Gateway was one of more than 100 vendors attending the Reseller XChange conference heldhere in Dana Point, Calif., this week. Reseller XChange is hosted by the Channel Group of CMP Media.

Phyllis McCullagh, vice president of the Gateway Partners Business Unit of Gateway Business, said the program will allow resellers to offer their clients the kind of services Gateway itself does not provide.

These services include warranty reimbursement, and warranty upgrades such as on-site coverage, spare parts, and cross shipments.

McCullagh said Gateway is determined to offer a clear alternative to Dell by showing its commitment to the channel.

"This is the first time in history a direct manufacturer has moved to the channel," McCullagh said. "We are coming from an efficient direct model, and offering [that model] to the channel."

The company offers resellers strong customer satisfaction and brand loyalty, as well as efficient logistics, McCullagh said. "But we're doing it in a channel-friendly way," she said.

Gateway has recently beefed up its channel program by bringing in channel-savvy personnel from Toshiba, Compaq, AT&T, and AST Research.
