Gary- I'm not really sure what you are responding to here. I am not referring to the WSJ article. The Motley Fool breakfast had a discussion about IBM. In the discussion, Michael Ruettgers, CEO of EMC, is posted as saying that it is likely that Dell will take over IBM's PC biz sometime in the future. I doubt (although anything is possible) that even the Fool would make such an egregious (sp?) error as to quote Ruettgers as saying this when he did not...

Given this is true, it is pretty powerful that someone who is pretty close to IBM, who knows quite a bit about them, and in all likelihood has access to information about IBM that we do not, would make such a statement.

Does this mean that it is a sure thing? Of course not. Does it add to the possibility that it will occur. Of course it does.

The IBM spokesman's statement "we remain committed to the PC biz" is to be expected. IBM will not come on record as looking to exit the PC biz until (1) They know the scope of what they want to do (2) They know how they want to do it (3) The agreements are in place to do so....to indicate this prematurely, in a public way, would lessen their bargaining position.

I don't see how anyone can look at what's happening in the PC biz, and particular at IBM, and conclude that there is NOT a possibility of IBM exiting the PC biz (in whole or part). Ruettgers just added one more indication that this may take indeed take place in some form or fashion.
