I've always been put off by the many "empty" posts on SI in
general. I wish there were guidelines. Could we at
least do the following:

1. Make sure there is some news to draw to our attention. It could
be a news story, or new information on a web link, or a new
recommendation, or a new analysis, or press release, or earnings
projection, etc. The strength of this forum is that we are the
eyes are ears for each other. We can point out things which
others might have missed.
2. Forget your analyses. If they are worth anything, then you
should be a billionaire, or on your way there. Do you really
think that you know anything new about this industry? Forget
crap like: "This baby is going to $150!!" If you say that, then
will you personally bet me (say $10,000) that this will happen?
I presume that if you believe your own speculations that you'd
be willing to pay me 10 to 1 on that bet?

In the spirit of item #1, here is something from www.cnnfn.com:

Chips get back on rally wagon

The chip sector got back on its feet, as optimism
appeared that the memory-chip segment could
weather softening of the PC market.
Rambus (RMBS) added 4 to 66-1/16. Analysts
said Korea's Samsung has voiced a strong
commitment to Rambus' memory -- or DRAM --
chips.
Meanwhile, analysts said chip giant Intel (INTC)
said it would be driving the DRAM technology to the
PC market in the second half of 1999. Intel shares fell
1-5/16 to 117-15/16.
Elsewhere, memory chip maker Micron
Technology (MU) sank 4-9/16 to 47-7/16, even
though it reported earnings after the bell Wednesday
that beat analysts' targets by 10 cents.
And Applied Materials (AMAT) rallied 3-11/16 to
61-1/16, while low-cost chip maker Advanced Micro
Devices (AMD) rose 3/8 to 16-1/8.
Elsewhere, SDL (SDLI) soared 6-1/18 to 75-1/2,
after announcing a 2-for-1 stock split, while Novellus
(NVLS) headed up 2-7/16 to 55 and KLA Tencor
(KLAC) rose 4-1/4 to 51-5/8.
