Hi Linda,
"I'd say not to write $20 paper right now. Shoot me if I'm wrong. I've been shot before. :)"

I'm not shooting, but I think I'll take AIM! ;-) AIM/Newport is begging me to sell about 15% of my remaining shares at $20, so I've been looking at the July $20 Calls. Looks like I can get $0.75 for selling those contracts. So, the "deal" price will have to be above $20-3/4 for me to lose any on them.

Since I'm only selling a portion of my overall holding, there'll be plenty of shares left to sell if we're lucky enough to get a deal done in the $20s. If it doesn't end up that sweet, I've pocketed some nice change and will enjoy several great meals out at Wisconsin's plentiful restaurants!

Having the volume sort of dry up is a bit disconcerting. To me it means that secondary suitors have bought their limit of stock where they don't yet have to announce their purchases. The new cozy relationship with Philips sounds like it allows VLSI to attempt to bit the price/share up and for Philips to justify to their existing shareholders that the $17 was too low. However, to expect much more than 20% premium above their initial offer is maybe too much. We shareholders need a well heeled second bid to get much more premium than $20. That's my own personal guess and we all know that I've not always guessed right, either!

I've been studying PHG a bit, but don't have much of a feel for the company yet. It does have an interesting 52 week high/low range.

Best regards, Tom
