hi sidney,

i don't think there is a browser setting to prevent that.

there are a couple things that you can do that i am aware of.

first of all, it is your isp that has an idle time, or inactivity time setting. you'll need to contact them and request that they bump it up to a longer time period. i did that with my isp.

secondly, you can fool them into thinking you are surfing the web by doing a couple things. you can load a site in a browser window that refreshes itself, or that has moving components. that will simulate activity and keep you connected. you may even be able to minimize the 'refresh' window on your desktop and still have it work. try it. or, you can search out some shareware programs that are available that accomplish this same task.

but look to your isp, not your browser.

:)

Hi Sidney

>>I get automatically disconnected from the internet after 30 minutes if I'm idle, saying working on a long post. I can't find the setting for that now. I use Netscape Comm 4.04 from AT&T Worldnet. Any ideas appreciated as always!<<

In the past I've had that problem and it had to do with my ISP's software, usually called "Dialer". Some ISP's have a "Disconnect after X minutes of inactivity" setting. Probably the quickest way to get it resolved is to contact your ISP's tech support.

If you feel like poking around (be careful) see if you can find AT&T Worldnet Dialer in your startup menu. In my case when I click on the Earthlink Dialer icon it starts dialing. If I hit cancel an Earthlink window comes up that allows one to set phone numbers, time-out's, etc.

Regards - Emory

Dear disconnected:

You can point your browser to est.time.org and your ISP will think you're still there because this site updates the time every minute or so. PW.

P.S. You can set this thing to your time zone.
