This may be true in South Korea, but not in the US.Both Hyundai and Samsung are hiring and ordering large amounts of equipment; DUV steppers used for .18 and below.

To All. I'm trying to figure out what Micron's percentage is of the worldwide DRAM output. Does anyone on this thread know?

I know Samsung is approx 18% and they are very pro RDRAM. On the other hand, Micron appears to be reluctant to endorse RDRAM with open arms. If it wasn't for Intel's $500 M investment in MU, then I'm sure Micron would not even give Rambus much thought.

However, with the majority of worldwide manufacturers endorsing RDRAM then it's important to figure out Micron's share. Samsung, NEC, Hyundai and LG Semicon are all planning to manufacture RDRAM in quantity.

How much DRAM does Micron produce in terms of worldwide production?
If RDRAM really takes off and the foreigners leave Micron in their wake in terms of production quantity, then Micron may be in trouble. Remember, Intel is only guaranteed a certain percentage of Micron's production capacity for RDRAM for the next five years. I don't know what this is but if Micron only chooses to produce the minimum quantity for Intel and Rambus really proliferates, then the foreigners may be in charge.

Also, does anyone know when Micron is contractually obligated (by Intel)to start producing RDRAM in quantity?

Thanks in advance for any input,

Doug

Micron Technology Inc. (MU) 50 3/8 -1 5/8: --UPDATE-- CE Unterberg Towbin maintains "buy" rating on memory chip maker as company's fiscal Q2 results contained few surprises; while manufacturing of 64Mb DRAM chips seems to on track, the swing factor remains pricing; at the last check, the spot market had MU product at $8.30 for its mainstream 64Mb
DRAM, still declining about $0.05 per day; the end of the Japanese fiscal year could shore up prices, however, as has been the case in past years.....
