I have contemplated why they bought Reiter, and the best reason I could come up with is that they bought it as a way of cheaply acquiring the knowhow to put content on the web with high throughput. By acquiring a web host, they get the knowledge cheaply, and can perhaps implement a large scale server setup more quickly.

Any other ideas?
