Do people think they pull those numbers out of a hat?

No, they usually pull them from an area of the body about mid-way down. -g-

Doug:

"Do we think they pull these figures out of a hat?"

No, that would require a bit of effort. It is more akin to just taking a pencil and doodling up a number on a page. (g)

MU is not the low cost producer, nor have they ever said that they were to my knowledge. The P3 is road kill already. A hailstorm of stock is about to be unleashed. Why try to hold back the tide?

Dan Niles has been getting away with murder for many moons. He is about to be run over by a very large freight train. He deserves it, but you don't need to join him on the tracks. Time to exit and watch the fun from the sidelines.

Best, Earlie

>>The bottom line is that Micron is the low cost producer, and we are about to see an uptick in PC sales due to the recent release of Pentium 3<<

doug, doug, doug. prove mu is the low cost producer. you can't. the doc says they weren't selling below gross cost when mu was. the doc disagrees with you. they've seen the numbers...

uptick due to piii? it has been out and it is a certified dud. nobody is buying. goodness, even the hype media says it is a yawn. retail sales down 16% in feb.

>>Do people think they pull those numbers out of a hat?<<

yes. they assume folks like you will give them credibility rather than earning it with good calls they rarely make - except when tipped off a day or two before earnings.

what comes to mind? the $17 earnings estimate for mu in 1997. the $4 estimate for 1998.

this thread nailed 1998 in 1997 when all the analysts said "best of all worlds." NOT!

Hutchinson, who makes disk drives just laid off 500 people; I am sure would not agree with you.

Doug, obviously there are firms with vested interests in MU (underwriters, etc.), and also firms on the hook for having recommended the stock to large buyers. I wouldn't put too much faith in the words of most analysts.
