Pardon the apparent non sequitur. I was mentally inverting your sentence to yield
>Seeking the full process is one outcome that interferes with [having] intelligent offspring.<
Here of course we need to make the stretch from "intelligent" to "morally decent". I realize that's a warm can of carbonated worms, so let's not define it for now.
Quoting maxims and then giving equal billing to opposite maxims? This way I see confusion and ultimately disenfranchisement. I agree that we cannot feed out kids pat glossy tripe. There is a difficult balance between the salutary comfort of Simple Principles and the chaotic moral ambivalence of the real world.
I see the outcome of unsound moral stewardship (which I see as being "out of balance", either too strict and cartoon-fundamentalist or too self-consciously without restraint like having unreconstructed hippies for parents) to be most brilliantly embodied by the Punk Rock movement as it was. Total cynical rejection of all authority. A desperate self-destructive embrace of the impersonal Existentialist oblivion. They weren't even rebels - because rebellion requires a defined ethos!
There must be a way to navigate these shoals. You like "process as ideal". I like the ethos of "balance". These are probably nearly the same thing, since they are adaptive ethical bases, yet not as overambitious as that of the self-diluting moral relativists of the peacenik generation.
