Jan:

I'm so glad you're connected!

What an ordeal.

I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say how touched we
are that you trusted us enough to share the details of
this extremely difficult situation with us.

Seems to me that you're ready to hire yourself out as
a medical paralegal, summarizing medical charts and
explaining procedures.<g> Well done. I suspect that a
blanky for the nerve just misses usual medical jargon,
though.<g>

Take your meds, girl. The docs know what they're doing and if
they say the pain goodies will enhance healing, it's probably
true.

Anyway, miss ya and will keep you in my prayers.

Hi Jan!!!!

Great to hear from you. Can't really tell with that great report if your excitement is just from your natural effervescence or still a little of that pain medication kicking in (g).

While your 3 pm procedure may be minor in nature, some of us will throw in a little "spirtual" help. Keep up the good healing and its nice to have you back on the thread.

Dave

Jan: congratulations on your successful surgery. I noted that your team has installed a spinal pump. There is a new medication called
Ziconotide(SNX-111) which was developed by Neurex(NXCO), now owned by Elan Corp(ELN- an Irish firm) which has completed trials and is now going thru the formal application process with FDA. I understand they plan to file in a few weeks, then, hopefully, this will be approved by end of 99, and available early 2000.
This is believed to be a revolutionary pain formulation, and it is administered by spinal pump. It has NONE of the side effects of opiates and other meds now used for nerve pain, chronic pain.
There is info on SI ELN/NXCO threads and the Yahoo ELN thread has good info too.
Bottom line, there is hope for addressing this type of pain.
A 24 year old gal in San Jose, with a congenital spinal disorder, incapacitated by chronic pain(many unsuccessful surgeries), has participated in trials and is now restored to full function in her life.
She was written up in the local news/tv recently.
Maybe your MD's can advise you of chances for getting on trials.
At any rate, there are some solutions coming.
Regards,
vocex

P.S.: pay no attention to recent run-up, and slide in ELN stock; the shorts are having thier way with it now, they think Irish accounting is Blarney

Great to hear from you, Jan - sounds like a stinky poopoo evening you had but if alll those men can get you fixed up right...well, then God bless 'em! (not even one female doc?) hope today's project went well, too and that someone nearby has already arrived with your resupply of cheetos. personally, I'd be ready for the psych ward with no cnbc. that must be REALLY bad. Get yourself home soon!

Hey Jannie:

Looks like I may be up in San Jose-land next Friday, 4-2.
I'll be running around on business stuff---but may be able to sneak
in a morning visit...............not finalized yet, though.

I'll keep you posted on the potential.

Meantime, take care and I'll be sending lots of positive thoughts your way during this afternoon's procedure.
