Will AMZN massacre EBAY in the Auction business?
I'm fully convinced that there is more to these rumors then just hot air. I'm hearing it everywhere and most of all it makes perfect sense for AMZN to aggressively pursue this business now. AMZN will be making a foray into the online auction business. I'm wondering what took them so long to do it. I'm an Ebay shareholder because this business model is really a no-brainer. The only question will be "Who's on top?" in this winner-takes-all market.

Shareholders and analysts have long complained that AMZN is too concerned with staying in a commodities business and the cost of maintaining all those goods. With online auctions, they can leverage their huge following and brand name into something closely related yet without inventory and sticking to just the information management and procurement side of the business. In the unlikely event that AMZN were to announce auction plans tomorrow, their stock would be going to the MOON. I wonder how Ebay shares would do in light of that.
