Company Press Release Talk Visual Signs Agreement With CABLE & WIRELESS, INC. for Global Video-Over-IP Network CAMBRIDGE, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 26, 1999--Talk Visual Corporation (NASDAQ:TVCPC - news) announced today the signing of an agreement with CABLE & WIRELESS, INC. to connect its locations worldwide to the Cable & Wireless IP Global Backbone Network. Cable & Wireless, Inc., a subsidiary of C&W Plc, a British company, is the acknowledged world leader in IP networks, having bought the IP Backbone from MCI last year in an FCC-ordered break-up of MCI following MCI's sale to WorldCom.
Talk Visual Corporation plans to offer worldwide VIDEOCONFERENCING AND CALLING services over the INTERNET using the substantial IP Bandwidth available to it from Cable & Wireless. In addition, the company will offer connectivity over ISDN circuits. Talk Visual is currently utilizing videocalling systems manufactured by PictureTel and by INTEL Corporation.
Talk Visual is currently building a global videocalling network to support strategically located business and retail locations, and will shortly offer consumers, travellers and business users worldwide a choice of videocalling services with calls connected both over IP and via ISDN. The company has more than twenty flagship locations under construction, and plans to start connecting calls by end of April 1999.
The first business and retail locations to connect to the Cable & Wireless global IP network will be the company's locations at Jamaica Plan, Boston. In addition, the company plans to connect to Cable & Wireless in Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver (Canada), in San Francisco, Los Angeles and Sacramento (California), as well as in multiple locations in London (England). All these sites anticipate operations commencing by mid-May 1999.
Talk Visual also recently announced the agreement to connect with GlobalXchange in Miami (partners with Telia Swedtel, the PTT of Sweden). The company plans to utilize Telia's backbone network for deployment into South American destinations.
