Elderly neighbor has the following question:

He inherited AT&T STock in the 60's. He is still holding the stock.
He also received 81 shares of BEll SOUTH and then some NCR and Lucent.

He is still holding all but some of the BS

In 1998 he sold some of the Bell South which due to splits had increased to about 1200 shares

I can help him with the splits and dates etc (research) but what is his cost basis in the Bell South in order to determine capital gain?

Specifically what is the method for calculating the cost basis?

Thanks in advance

Jennifer
