On-line advertising is actually working for some firms.

I personally never click on the ads , but many do.

I think it is here for good and is a cheap way ( for the time being) for companies to advertise.

Online advertising is driving the internet, like comercials are driving the Televison industry. With the exception of store fronts selling directly to consumers, there is little other proven way to make money on the WWW. For example all the revenues that a Amazon or a Yahoo gets for cross-linking and such is like free money.

If the question is how important is online advertising, I think it is big. But nobody has found were the money is yet in the Internet. Think what drives a magazines, the person pays a little for the mag but the mag make money from advertisers.
IMO FWIW YMMV

As people spend more and more time online...vs watching tv/reading periodicals for news/information.....it will be a critical way for advertisers to reach their potential users/current users.

"eyeballs" is the reason...AOL etc...are so highly valued...not for the subscriber fees but for the advertising potential..

IMO....mary (with 28% of holdings in AOl today)

I myself have followed only a few links to buy anything. But as much time as we junkies spend on the net, I can't see it dying. I think the main problem is that folks just don't yet feel comfortable using credit cards over the net. The ads hit a great many eyeballs and that builds brand awareness. That is certainly the way to become a household name and that should spell success. I figure it's just about another 2 months or so before I buy some pc of junk off of EBAY.

Anthony@Pacific: For now...primary sites that have a lot of eyes or the selective sites that have many specific eyes will be good for advertisers.

Advertising on the Web will become more and more profitable as the Net becomes more and more main stream. As access speeds continue to increase affording more graphics and eventually quality real-time video advertising on the net will rival the tube.

Eventually ever TV will be interconnected to the Net. The difference between TV and the NET will blur as the Net acquires the ability to offer quality real-time video.

Most all will eventually receive their mail via Email and Email Junk Mail will replace the Snail Mail Junk. Instead of brochures in the mail, you will receive links to brochures via the net and even links to video snippets of the products to be sold and much more.

The Net is just beginning...today's children are growing up with the personal computer and the Net...it will become, as second nature to them, as the TV and Telephone are to most today. TV/Cable, the Telephone and the Net will become as one!

BWDIK as always…
Regards,
LG

I rarely respond to ONLINE Ads. Maybe once every month max.
I especially don't like the "flashing" kind. They irritate me and I wouldn't respond, no matter what it was, just because it's flashing.
