LOL.

We must remember though, notwithstanding our quest for equality among numbers, that there are genetic prejudices which in a nonrandom way have resulted in certain numbers, combinations of numbers, multiples and fractions being accorded prestige.

For example, if one were to analyze the card numbers of baseball players in a TOPPS set in any given year, that person would notice that numbers divisible by five generally are assigned to players who have achieved a certain level of stardom. Within this subset of card numbers, those ending in 0 are higher level stars than those whose numbers end in 5. Within this smaller subset, the numbers divisible by 50 constitute the stratosphere of baseball stars. Among those, the 00s are supreme. So, for example, if you were to examine a TOPPS set from, say, 1969, the 00s would be reserved for guys like Mays, Aaron, Clemente, Gibson, Yaz, Rose, McClain, Marichal, F. Robinson. The 50s would be players like B. Robinson, Banks, Cepeda, Stargell, McCovey, Killebrew, Drysdale, Brock, etc. Then, the 0s would be fellows like Flood, Kaline, Jenkins, Billy Williams, Boog Powell, Bench, Frank Howard, etc. The 5s would be your solid but unspectacular guys like Glenn Beckert, Julian Javier, Mazeroski, Bill Hands, Tommy Helms, Jim Wynn, Bobby Murcer. You get the picture.

In the same way, there is a certain hierarchy of post numbers. The exact status of a number depends on personal taste. For example, some post grubbers delight at grubbing post numbers that would be good poker hands. Full houses, straights and four or more of a kind are especially desired. Others salivate over multiples of 10, with triple zeros being the Holy Grail. Other, more disturbed types delight in the palindrome, with the 5 digit and greater variety being the most coveted of all. Finally, the truly deranged find their solace in the ability to match the post number with the time of day. Post number 1111 at 11:11 is truly orgasmic to these people.

Frankly, it is a disease for which there is no cure. So while the numerologists among us delight in the shagging of desirable post numbers, the rest of the poor souls among us are left scratching their heads wondering why so many people have so much time on their hands to engage in such sophomoric behavior. Well, it's because we're all richer than hell because we understand numbers. So there.
