Blake -

I am a current AOL Member. I also have an account at a local ISP through my work. I normally connect through AOL because it seems that my internet access is faster through AOL. I have tried a few other ISP's on a trial basis with the same results. Also, when I travel there is usually a local number that I can use to connect to AOL.

When you add the fact that my son would quit speaking to me if I switched, it is a no-brainer to me to continue my AOL connection.

I agree that the timers are a pain! The advertisements, however, are an option which may be turned off in your personal profile.

Good luck,

Ritch

I WAS an AOL member and I closed my account. The only reason there are so many members is because you people are sheep. Pepople do what everyone else does. IF you had another service provider you would see why those who dont use AOL will NEVER use it. AOL connections are terrible, online timers are terrible, and I was tired of the advertisements. I was paying $21 to be solicited at every opportunity. I trade the stockand I make money with it but as a company they are big brother.

Sorry to hear that your experience with AOL was not up to your standards. It amazes me that you think 17 million+ subscribers are sheep. Lemmings perhaps, but sheep? :)

Funny you mention other services providers. If your logic is correct, why does AOL continue to outpace all other providers by a wide margin? Perhaps it is because the millions of users enjoy using the service. Every time I hear of someone complaining about the pop-ups, I have to shake my head. Simply go to marketing preferences under My AOL, and click the no pop-up box. It's that simple - yet it never fails to hear someone mention it every time the put AOL down. If only they spent 10 minutes learning how to utilize the product ...

If you trade the stock and make money, that is fantastic. More power to you. But be careful, the big brother we call the Internet is watching!

S. Baaahhh Baaahhh - couldn't resist :)

I also have AOL and another ISP. My AOL experience is not bad like yours. I had once before but droped it because of poor customer support. But I don't have that complaint now. So I am happy.

I am very happy now not only because on being AOL member but because
my long position since last August. Since then I have been cost dollar averaging.
But why AOL is so hot because of experience I had last week.
Here is a summary of my post on another thread:
Message 8454164
That summary contains some other information that may not be relevant
to AOL thread, but the message is clear.

Hope you understand why AOL is such a darling.

I use AOL not because I'm a sheep but because I'm CHEAP! I can't remember the last time I paid the $22 for unlimited service. How can this be, you might ask? Simple, sign up for the AOL First USA platinum Visa card and use it for EVERYTHING you buy. 1% of every purchase goes to pay your AOL bill. All it takes is a few big purchases and you've got your AOL paid up for several months.

I know people that have ATT Worldnet and they say it's slower than AOL. I had problems with making a connection and slow speeds here in Myrtle Beach from Jan through Feb. Since they have added capacity I can connect on the first try and it's faster than ever, even during peak hours, so I'm very pleased. By the way, I bought as much NSCP as I could when I was having problems because that told me AOL was adding new subscribers at a faster rate than planned and therefore the earnings for the Mar Q may be better than consensus.
Remember more subscribers mean more ecommerce and add revenue in addition to the subscriber revenue.
Regards, Lee
