If the specs are totally identical (I suspect they are, but who knows?), then I think you are right: they probably titrate their pricing on an ongoing basis, attempting to maximize profits. Impressive, if successful, although not unexpected -- the idea of Mr. Dell leaving a dollar on a customer's table when he could have had it strikes me as countradicting his history. -mb

This is not new. Six months ago I found that DELL pricing changed often and that it paid to look through all the areas and create identical configurations. There were significant price differences. Ended up building the system myself. Much cheaper, definitely custom and pretty easy.
