Dear Lou

I read that you feel the era of the PC is over. I would like to ask you some questions about that.

1. You guys are pushing the envelope on LCD display technology, higher resolutions and finer DP. I was wondering what kind of device you intended it for. I don't think it will fit in my Gameboy?

2. The Telcos and Cable Co. are furiously attempting to wire the world with broadband. I may be wrong, but broadband implies an awful lot of data You know like MPEGs, Virtual Worlds, 8 browser windows all filling concurrently on my new 24" Sony monitor(I wish) powered by a Dell PC and 3-D shopping. I sure hope the display on my cell phone can handle that. If I go blind from squinting do you think I can sue the @Home guys?

3. You guys are pushing the window on diskdrive technology. I used to have the largest drive on my Dell Inspiron, but you buggers upped the ante with a 14 gig laptop drive. I'm guessing you keep increasing capacity so when you start putting them in refrigerators you will be able to keep track of my beer consumption.

4. Lexmark and other printer manufacturers are furiously trying to make their color laser printers affordable. I was wondering if there will be a parallel printer port on my stove so that when I bake a turkey I can get color printouts every 15 minutes to monitor progress. Bending down and looking inside the oven is a real pain.

5. I have one of those megapixel cameras. They are amazing. I can snap a picture, plug it into my Inspiron, adjust the image with Photoshop and then send it half way around the world in under 5 minutes. Am I doing something wrong? Should I be mailing my friends the memory card instead?

6. I see where the video card manufacturers are raising the bar on video. They are adding hardware support for mpeg, dvd, tv tuner and incredible resolution at very high refresh rates. I can't wait to install one of those suckers in my M3 so I can see how fast I'm going at 1600x1200 and billions of colors. That will be cool.

7. Those guys at Rambus are totally out to lunch. They are close to introducing a dramatic improvement in memory bandwith between memory and the processor. Intel really sold them a bill of goods on that one. HeHeHeHe.

8. I guess we don't even want to talk about Intel. I wonder if they could make their microprocessors out of potatoes instead of silicon. That way they could just repackage their chips and get some salvage value.

Lou maybe the truth is that PC's aren't dead, but your marriage to them is. Time to move on.

Yours Truly

Mike
