Agreed - that is a very significant cost savings. I remember some private remarks by Mike Lambert shortly after he went to DELL - he was surprised at the high prices DELL was paying for some key components, particularly OS and processors. He said DELL's success in managing costs was even more impressive given their inherent handicap in cost basis. This may be the silver lining in DELL's growth into the first tier - they are now big enough to start driving harder bargains in key components.
