mohan....the 80's not that long ago...but so very far away..

i concur...first computers we started buying were canon..ibm clones..8086 processors..128k? ram...10mb hard drives..mono monitors...but even these machines which took 5 minutes to boot, replaced two clerks...my business was always international...partnered with the japanese...our domestic exxon (yes the oil company which had a technology group) qwip 6 minute per page rotary drum fax couldn't shake hands with ricoh machines...paid 3600 in 1985 for a gr1 ricoh rapicom 210 fax...but a hell of a lot faster than a telex..and guess what..the telex operator(a full time job) was made redundant...

there are many on this thread who "read" a lot of esoteric bs...and were too young to have made management decisions 20-30 years ago...those who were there can see the progression of technology and how it impacted on the work force and increased productivity, sales and profit...msd bto is the same...streamline thru unconventional ideas...

so where were the economists when we were living the change...and why can't they learn from the resiliency and adaptability of the human race????

thanks your comments, ed a.

p.s...were you with royal dutch shell?
