"On the other hand a friend of mine who is a VP at Comerica Bank has told me that he thought banks wouldn't want to risk inheriting year 2000 problems by merging with some other banks so maybe we'll see a pickup in bank merger activity after Jan 1 "

Good point. Makes a lot of sense.
Welcome to the board. Do you hold ONB stock ??
Are you in the DRIP program ??
We'd all like to see a 2-1 split.
I thought that we might see one when we made the move to 60.
Then, the Board chose to abandon the stock buy-back program in favor
of keeping the cash around for more acquisitions.
Maybe they'll resume the buy-back at some later date.
They've been giving out an annual 21-20 split (5% div) every
January for a number of years now, but they haven't split it
for quite a while.
Personally, I'd like to see a 4-3 or a 3-2.
2-1 splits are usually killers for stocks if you're not an
AOL or a MSFT.
