OT: Did I miss Quad-K's apology; if it wasn't forthcoming, why are we acknowledging this boor.

Recheck your watch lists in the morning. Because the S&P futures were down so much at 5:00 I thought I was overweighted in internet stocks so I decided to redistribute the watch list to include more 'stable' companies even though it took me a few hours to
find the ones that are reprinted at the bottom of this post.

I have said in the past to recheck your watch lists at 6:30 -7:00 a.m. especially on days when the S&P is looking particularly bleak. I will now take it one step further and print on every watch list at the bottom instructions to recheck at this hour.. It is rare that I change it but when I do you should be aware.

The watch list below was the original watch list and as you can see it was weighted down with quite a few 'nets (which was not bad actually) and NEON, a particularly volatile tech. As always, subscribers keep the feedback coming, I always use it to improve the service.

From now on I'm going with my chart patterns and scans exclusively. The watch list below was somewhat superior to the amended one, although PEP did break through some important resistance as did JMED and I transferred TECD (our earnings play from the calendar) to the watch list because of its increasing momentum and 'buy' signals.

Jenna,
I just discovered that the watch list for 3-26 that I got early this morning and used all day is not the watch list that is currently in Market Gems for 3-26. I finally rechecked it because some of your posts on SI didn't seem to match what I was looking at. the list I got was:

1-NTBK
2-EWBX
3-NEON
4-MLTX
5-CPWR
6-CNCX
7-GNSS
8-CVS
9-CD
10-INKT

What happened?

Jeff,
Read the WSJ article lol- have you figured out what you are going to do yet? I agree with a lot of trading it can get a bit out of hand with the recordkeeping. What has worked for me is when I have a "matched" purchase & sale, I staple the two together, keep it in a pile 'till the end of the month when I get my brokerage statements then input into my excel spreadsheet which is set up identically as the Schedule D. I often update much more often than once a month but when the statement comes in you know it's time to get up to speed. A few hours during a weekend once a month should do it if you are organized. After I enter a trade I "check off" the confirmation to know it's been recorded then I put the month's trades chronologically with that month's statement on top - rubber band & shelf it! Maybe not the most advanced system but found it works well for me.

Does anyone have any tips for how they streamline the recordkeeping?
I have thought about trying to find a good 'computerized sytem' that would just transfer the data but since I have 3 accounts I feel that it would be too messy unless I did it manually.

Anyway, my advice: 1)send in an estimated payment if you think you owe
taxes 2) get a extension 3)record every sale that is listed on your 1099 (on a spreadsheet made out just like the 1099) then go back and find the purchase transaction for each sale (the sale is what is reported so make sure you don't miss any). Break it up monthly so it is not so overwhelming.

Find a system that works for you so 1999 isn't the same nightmare.
Good luck! BTW how did they find you?

Caroline

Hey Jeff,

You are a celebrity!!! Congrats...

That article spells one of the key reasons I haven't left Waterhouse despite the heartaches of the .05% of mishit in trading access... the all so important end of day Quicken transaction download which is automatic... and Turbo Tax does all the calculation for you on tax time... all you need to do is verify the end figures... if they tally the greenlight is on... no accountants needed.
