Hio: I agree. The myopia of these guys who can not see beyond CPQ as box maker gets more and more irritating.

This particular fellow is especially irritating since he states that CPQ made the announcement they were going to spin-off AV as a means of 'goosing' the share price:

> A few big companies have sought to boost their bottom lines and goose their stock
> prices by spinning off noncore units. In January Compaq set its spinoff of Altavista, the
> search engine acquired in last year's $7 billion Digital Equipment buy.

At least he does not point to insider pumping and dumping as the reason the price of CPQ then fell:

> Both Compaq and H-P's stock prices dropped shortly after the spinoff publicity pixie
> dust evaporated.

hio: Why is it these nutcakes only see Compaq as a pc maker?

Look how long it's taken IBM to change its image. Only just recently are you seeing analysts dismiss lousy PC sales there on the basis that IBM "is no longer just a PC company" and about 60% of IBM's revs come from services and software. Now that IBM has paved the way, so to speak, it will be easier for CPQ to change that perception, but it ain't going to happen "overnight."
